February 2023 - Heat-transfer simulation in refined geometries at low computational expenses.
No sensitivity to the geometric refinement
In Science Advances we recently announced a paradigm shift in urban climate modeling allowed by recent Monte Carlo advances (The teapot in a city: A paradigm shift in urban climate modeling). Direct 3D transient simulation of heat transfer in such large scale systems as cities, including all housing details at all scales, is now feasible.
You may find useful complementary information on stardis website. We here reproduce a plot indicating two main features of this new approach:
- computation time does not increase when refining the geometrical description;
- once a first Monte Carlo simulation is performed, all the sample thermal paths have been stored and the simulation can be replayed for other boundary conditions, other sources, other observation times, without reconstructing the paths, typically reducing computation times of three orders of magnitude (Green usage).
